A new exhibition amidst the pandemic focuses on the traditional Turkish shadow puppet Karagoz and his cohorts. Shadow puppets also presented themselves in Egypt, Greece and Turkey with the later countries Karagoz and Karagiozi Black eye, the central character. The play consists of four main parts: Introduction, Dialogue, The Main Play and The end. These could be: imam, dancer, clown, neighbors, dancers, servants, ladies, mythological creatures, madman, deafman and so on. In addition to the main characters, some other stereotype roles that represent people in Istanbul’s neighborhoods, from different ethnical backgrounds could also be seen in the play. It is known as one of the oldest shadow performances in the world dating back. Karagöz is the straightforward, rude and less educated character who symbolizes public opinion and common sense, whereas Hacivat is the clever, educated, slightly sneaky and smooth-tongued character who is from upper-class. Turkish Shadow theatre is the traditional shadow puppet theatre of Anatolia. These two roles are quite opposite to each other and the comedy in the play stems from their contrasting characters.
